WP9. Stakeholder involvement
Background
Stakeholders who can contribute to the development of a Roadmap for the promotion and integration of mental health and well-being research in Europe include:
- mental health professionals, including representatives of professional associations and mental health academic institutions;
- representatives of organisations of users of mental health services;
- representatives of organisations of families and carers of people with mental disorders;
- non-governmental organisations involved in the provision of mental health care and advocacy;
- policy-makers, policy-influencers and public administrators;
- donor agencies interested in the mental health field.
In the past, not all of these stakeholders have been involved in setting research priorities and certainly there have been few occasions in Europe where they all have been involved in a coordinated manner.
These stakeholders can give a valuable contribution to the discussion about priorities for mental health and well-being research at the national and European level and about the most appropriate modalities for their involvement in that research.
Objectives
- To develop a map of the most active stakeholders in the mental health field at the European level and in individual European countries
- To consult stakeholders on priority areas for mental health research in Europe and on the most appropriate modalities for their involvement in that research
- To build up a picture of the mental health needs of the European population from the stakeholders’ viewpoint
- To promote and orient mental health research involving multiple categories of stakeholders in Europe
- To consult the stakeholders about the materials produced by the other work packages and about the draft of the final roadmap

First survey consultation for Stakeholders
The WP9 of ROAMER has coordinated the first survey consultation aimed to examine the point of view of several groups of Stakeholders on mental health and well-being research priorities.
The questionnaire has been translated into 11 languages, taking advantage of the wide coverage of the ROAMER consortium!
Around 140 associations of professionals, academics, and users and carers active in the mental health field in individual European Union countries have been invited to participate in this initiative!
Initial results have already been consulted on the first Stakeholder meeting on the 18th of December, 2012. Further information will be available as well soon.
First consensus meeting with the Stakeholder Advisory Board to examine the State of the Art of Mental Health and Well-being research in Europe
In order to consult stakeholders on priority areas for mental health research in Europe and on the most appropriate modalities for their involvement in that research and also to consult the stakeholders about the materials produced by the work packages the first stakeholder consensus meeting was scheduled to the end of 2012. The first meeting with the Stakeholder Advisory Board was successfully held on the 17th of December, 2012, in Barcelona. The event was hosted by Professor Mario Maj (SUN), leader of WP9, responsible for stakeholder involvement.
