In order to effectively address the issues raised, ROAMER has been designed to contain 11 independent, but interrelated work packages pulling together key areas of mental health research. Work plan strategy is illustrated in the following figure. The core of the project is formed by six scientific work packages comprised by groups of scientific experts selected upon objective criteria. These WPs will analyse the key areas of mental health research in Europe.

Each area of knowledge will be addressed parallel by following a common methodology that comprises several general steps, including the examination of the current state-of-the-art, identification of gaps and prioritization of advances to address those gaps.
The general approach in each field will take advantage of several activities such as survey consultations, systematic literature reviews, scientific workshops and consecutive consensus meetings.

The outputs of each scientific WP will be integrated with a geographic, multidisciplinary and life-course approach, revised by the Scientific Advisory Board, the Stakeholder Advisory Board and the Government and Funding Institution Council, discussed in Policy Workshops and finally agreed by consensus and translated into Roadmaps. Other WPs are carrying on the essential tasks of project management, coordination of stakeholder involvement, dissemination and promotion of the results, and the final translation of the outputs into Roadmaps.

The ROAMER approach is divided into the following 5 main phases:

• Phase 1: Kick-off
• Phase 2: State-of-the-art
• Phase 3: Gaps and advances
• Phase 4: Prioritization
• Phase 5: Translation into roadmaps

During the scientific workshops 20-30 scientific experts in one area of knowledge within mental health research comprising one specific WP join, along with the project manager and at least one member of each WP of the project. The scientific workshops are devoted to discussing and defining either the state-of-the-art, gaps and advances, or the main priorities in the specific area of knowledge based on their experience.

Policy workshops

The policy workshops are face-to-face meetings which will take place during the last phases of the ROAMER project and will join a group of representatives of policy makers with the coordinator and project manager of ROAMER, and WP leaders and their main postdoctoral researchers. The policy workshops will be devoted to discussing the information gathered in the previous phases of the project to gather feedbacks of policy makers about the proposed priorities to finally establish the action plans.
